Ironclad Human Performance is dedicated to assisting first responders in enhancing their capacity to manage demanding work, recover effectively, and thrive beyond their career.
We offer practical, evidence-based wellness and rehabilitation services tailored to the realities of first responder work, including specialized occupational therapy for first responders. Participants can look forward to developing their capacity, overcoming performance barriers, and benefiting from comprehensive preventative wellness programs to maintain their health.
We look beyond diagnoses and individual symptoms to understand the whole person, focusing on their goals within the context of their work and life. Through our occupational therapy for first responders, we aim for meaningful function—not just improvement on a test or reduction of a symptom. Additionally, our preventative wellness programs are designed to support overall health, while our rehabilitation for first responders is tailored to meet their unique needs.
We believe that proactive investment in health, recovery, and capacity is essential for staying operational. Implementing preventative wellness programs and strategies before injury or burnout not only fosters resiliency and grit but also enhances the effectiveness of rehabilitation for first responders.
Good care must extend beyond the clinic. We emphasize practical strategies that align with the demands, schedules, culture, and realities of first responder life. At Ironclad Human Performance, we offer occupational therapy for first responders and implement preventative wellness programs in-house at departments to reduce barriers to access. This approach enhances rehabilitation for first responders, ensuring they receive the support they need.
We prioritize evidence-based care, critical thinking, and informed decision making. Ironclad Human Performance tailors the best-practice care, including occupational therapy for first responders, to meet the unique needs of each individual. Our approach also emphasizes preventative wellness programs and effective rehabilitation for first responders.
Better outcomes come from collaboration. We work alongside first responders, healthcare professionals, agencies, and community partners to create connected, accessible, and effective systems of care, including occupational therapy for first responders and preventative wellness programs that support rehabilitation for first responders.
We understand that the work of first responders matters greatly. We don't ask them to choose between taking care of themselves and doing their jobs. Through our preventative wellness programs and occupational therapy for first responders, we help them find sustainable ways to balance both their health and their responsibilities. Additionally, our focus on rehabilitation for first responders ensures they can recover effectively and continue their vital roles.

Dr. van der Meulen is an occupational therapist, rehabilitation specialist, and founder of Ironclad Human Performance. She specializes in helping first responders build the physical, cognitive, and functional capacity needed to perform demanding work while maintaining a sustainable life outside of it.
Dr. van der Meulen understands that first responder health requires more than treating injuries when they occur. The physical demands of the job, repeated exposure to stress, long shifts, disrupted recovery, and the expectation to perform under pressure can all affect how someone functions at work and at home. Her approach focuses on proactive care, practical rehabilitation, and building capacity before problems limit function.
Her clinical background spans orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, chronic pain, return-to-work, concussion, vestibular and functional vision rehabilitation, and complex interdisciplinary care. She has experience working with individuals managing persistent pain, musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions, and other challenges that interfere with work, physical performance, and everyday life. Her rehabilitation philosophy is function-focused: rather than allowing a diagnosis or symptom to define what someone can do, she works with clients to identify what matters to them and develop strategies to move toward those goals.
Before founding Ironclad, Dr. van der Meulen served as Clinical Director of a CARF-accredited intensive outpatient brain injury rehabilitation program, leading an interdisciplinary team of physicians, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and vocational rehabilitation professionals. She later served as Director of Clinical Development, where she developed evidence-based clinical protocols, education programs, and rehabilitation initiatives while building partnerships across healthcare and community organizations.
At Ironclad Human Performance, Dr. van der Meulen brings this clinical and program-development experience directly to the first responder community through preventative wellness, rehabilitation, education, and consultation. Her goal is to provide care that respects the realities of the job while giving first responders practical tools they can actually use— on the job, during recovery, and at home.
